Mechanical Engineer

Cruz Associates Inc. (www.cruzinc.us) of Yorktown, VA has an open position for a Mechanical Engineer. The job location is at Fort Campbell, KY in support of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR). Scope: The mechanical engineer shall provide mechanical modeling, design, analysis, and drafting support to develop aviation systems Technical Data Packages (TDPs) suitable for prototyping and production. Design and drawings packages shall substantiate, as necessary, the considered design to be in compliance with the original Prime Item Development Specifications (PIDS), applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, and/or identified airworthiness requirements for the particular aircraft platform. Modeling shall include 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, and finite element. The analyses shall include structural, vibrational, load path, fatigue, and Resonance Assessment Profiles (RAP). This work may be conducted independently or as a member of a larger design team of designers and engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Design aircraft structures and/or equipment mounting and support structures.
  • Develop 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, and/or finite element models as required.
  • Conduct structural, vibrational, load path, fatigue, and RAP analyses.
  • Develop drawing packages in sufficient detail to produce productionized TDPs.
  • Develops stress/test reports for multiple aircraft projects.
  • Confirms system and product specifications by designing feasibility and testing methods
  • Conduct test plan reviews.
  • Ensures system and product quality by evaluating testing methods; testing finished product and system capabilities; and confirming fabrication, assembly, installation processes, and instrumentation.
  • Perform engineering design evaluations.
  • Identifies and assists with documentation of functional requirements for assigned projects.
  • Conducts research for system-related information as directed.
  • Apply both classical analysis and finite element analysis software tools.
  • Conduct fatigue analyses and make finite/infinite life assessments.
  • Identify potential risks and appropriate courses of action should technical issues arise, or user requirements change.
  • Participates as a subject matter expert in design reviews, technical meetings, and briefings.
  • Interface with other engineering activities such as the Technology Application Program Office (TAPO) engineers, Aviation Engineering Directorate (AED), Aviation Integration Directorate (AID), Special Operations Forces Support Activity (SOFSA), Boeing, Sikorsky, etc. on mechanical design considerations.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 8 years’ experience as an engineer.
  • Secret or Interim Secret security clearance is acceptable to start, must be able to obtain Top Secret or Interim Top Secret security clearance once hired.
  • Current on computer aided software design systems. (i.e. Auto Desk Inventor, CATIA).

Administrative Specialist

Scope: The Administrative Specialist shall be responsible to support engineering projects with a variety of administrative tasks in the areas of coordination, communication, reception & hospitality, clerical support and technical/digital support. The administrative specialist will manage office schedules, training schedules and status, travel arrangements, special support for organizational events, supporting business and funding tasks, customer service tasks, office correspondence, and digital organization of office documents.

Responsibilities (Not all encompassing):

  • Support the Aviation Applied Technology Directorate Office (AATD), to create, type, transmit, file, store, print and retrieve documents with no or with very few, but quickly correctable, errors. Typical typing at words per minute rates for an Administrative Specialist are expected and use typical Microsoft and Adobe software.
  • Interface with executive-level US Government and Contractor personnel via electronic media and face-to-face on behalf of the Director. The contractor shall demonstrate the appropriate level of maturity and poise in order to interact with these senior levels of government and industry in place of the Director.
  • Plan and set-up virtual or face-to-face meetings for the Director. This includes planning and coordinating transportation, managing and communicating changing events, interfacing with other Headquarters personnel and retrieval of personnel and items in support of those meetings. Ability to use typical electronic communication devices such as multi-line phones and cell phones are expected.
  • Accurately coordinate and schedule the Director’s day-to-day meeting schedule and be able to manage a dynamic and frequently changing set of events to always keep the Director on-time and appropriately informed and situationally aware.
  • Provide other typical administrative support as required.

Education and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalency is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe required.

Mission Equipment Subsystem and System Integration Support

K-Cruz of Yorktown, VA (www.cruzinc.us) is looking for qualified candidates for a Mission Equipment Subsystem and System Integration Support position.  The position is focused on Aircraft Survivability Equipment.  The job location is Joint Base Langley Eustis (JBLE), Virginia in support of the Technology Applications Program Office (TAPO).  Interested applicants should apply at the following link: Mission Equipment Subsystem and System Integration Support and submit their application and resume.

Scope: Provide subject matter support services for special operations aircraft (SOA)-peculiar mission equipment being procured/upgraded and fielded by the TAPO, as well as US Army common mission equipment provided by the Army and being integrated and fielded by TAPO. Machinist Technician / Machine Operator

Mission Planning Program Integrator NC

Quality Assurance Specialist (Ammo)

Scope: Qualified Quality Assurance Specialist supports the work of other NSWC IHEODTD activities, vendors, participating industrial and government activities and the Naval Surface Warfare Center and Naval Air Systems Command.  Provides Command expertise in metals parts, measuring techniques, and quality as a part in the product assurance inspections process. Provides technical expertise and consultation, and is the central review point for discrepant quality evidence and contact point for coordination of quality verification efforts.  Specialist shall be subject to physical examinations and certification requirements.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Interpret drawings and sketches; using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing in evaluating parts and interpreting drawings.
  • Evaluate current inspection methods and procedures for accuracy, effectiveness, and productivity. Performs many of the difficult and complicated inspections on weapons, materials and test equipment procured, purchased, produced, modified, or repaired by the Command.
  • Perform technical evaluation to select up to date inspection equipment, techniques, and methods.
  • Coordinate testing of all first article samples. Works with other Divisions within the Department and with other departments. Completes reports and prepares a comprehensive report for the customer.
  • Set up and program various computer controlled equipment used in part measurement and physical evaluation of materials.
  • Monitor the performance of the inspection equipment and the data generated.
  • Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills and assists floor leader in providing advice and assistance to the other inspectors in the Branch.
  • Develop inspection procedures and plans to use by contractor personnel problems.
  • Act as the Command representative to the outside sources involved whether it is another government facility or a private contractor by providing special field advice and assistance visits.
  • Provide technical assistance to Vendor Control and Supply by field advice and meetings with vendors and other government facilities and to evaluate the capability of the vendor to produce the material in question.
  • Participate in the Pre‐Award Surveys and Post‐Award Surveys to evaluate the capability of the Command’s vendors and when called upon by the Fleet Analysis Center.
  • Perform spot‐checks of SIPs, QATIPs, and other inspections of materials for adequacy and thoroughness. Recommends changes where conditions warrant changes and researches and drafts Standard Inspection Procedures used in the receipt inspection of hardware.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Technical expertise in the field of manufactured parts that enables the incumbent to provide advisory services to coworkers, customers, and vendors. Extensive knowledge of the design and materials being used in manufacturing a wide variety of ordnance items to develop and evaluate inspection procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of Programming and the usage of computer controlled measuring equipment. Thorough knowledge of CMM including programming, operating, and interpreting data.
