Electrical Design Team Lead

Cruz Associates Inc. of Yorktown, VA has an open position for an Electrical Design Team Lead.  The job location is Fort Eustis, VA in support of the Aviation Development Directorate (ADD).    Interested applicants should apply by clicking the following link: Electrical Design Team Lead, completing the online application and uploading their resumes. 

Scope: This position will serve as the Team Lead over a larger design team of electrical designers and engineers. Design and drawing packages must be in accordance with identified airworthiness requirements for particular aircraft platforms.  

Responsibilities: (Not all encompassing)

  • Design and integration of aircraft systems and sub-systems.
  • Development of drawing packages in sufficient detail to production tech data packages.
  • Assisting in the preparation of purchase requests for materials necessary to realize designs.
  • Tracking purchase requests. 
  • Coordination with the fabricators as required in the production of these designs.    

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree (or above) and CAD certification.
  • 10 years experience using computer aided software design systems (i.e. Parametric Technology Program Engineer/CREO CAD) and Windchill Data Base systems. 
  • Secret or Interim Secret security clearance is required.


Technical Writer

Cruz Associates Inc. of Yorktown, VA has an open position for a Technical Writer.  The job location is at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head, MD in support of U.S. Navy munitions and energetic operations.  Interested applicants should apply by clicking the following link: Technical Writer, completing the online application and uploading their resumes.

Scope:  This position will work closely with customers to develop and maintain Navy specifications and technical manuals.  Technical assignments for this position are diverse and require the ability to work with little supervision.  Duties include technical documentation review, technical editing, and copy preparation.  Position requires technical writing skills and demonstrated ability in the operation of publishing/editorial software to compose text and tables, copy editing, and art work.   

Responsibilities: (Not all encompassing)

  • Analyzes and reviews style and format of technical documents for compliance with Department of Defense standards, specifications, and instructions.
  • Verifies format, style, content arrangement, and other publication requirements for any technical document that does not conform to existing specifications.
  • Ensures conformance to established specifications (style, format, and publication content requirements).  
  • Ensures correct use of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. 
  • Prepares final documents for printing and distribution.    

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred in English, technical writing, education, or journalism (experience may substitute for degree).
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Adobe Pro (2007 and up) required.
  • Secret or Interim Secret security clearance is required.
  • Strong English and/or prior technical editing background desired.
  • Must be highly skilled with keyboard and software programs.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Quality Assurance Specialist (Ammo)

Cruz Associates Inc. of Yorktown, VA has an open position and is looking for qualified candidates for a Quality Assurance Specialist (Ammo). Scope: Qualified Quality Assurance Specialist supports the work of other NSWC IHEODTD activities, vendors, participating industrial and government activities and the Naval Surface Warfare Center and Naval Air Systems Command.  Provides Command expertise in metals parts, measuring techniques, and quality as a part in the product assurance inspections process. Provides technical expertise and consultation, and is the central review point for discrepant quality evidence and contact point for coordination of quality verification efforts.  Specialist shall be subject to physical examinations and certification requirements.  



  • Interpret drawings and sketches; using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing in evaluating parts and interpreting drawings.
  • Evaluate current inspection methods and procedures for accuracy, effectiveness, and productivity. Performs many of the difficult and complicated inspections on weapons, materials and test equipment procured, purchased, produced, modified, or repaired by the Command.
  • Perform technical evaluation to select up to date inspection equipment, techniques, and methods.
  • Coordinate testing of all first article samples. Works with other Divisions within the Department and with other departments. Completes reports and prepares a comprehensive report for the customer.
  • Set up and program various computer controlled equipment used in part measurement and physical evaluation of materials.
  • Monitor the performance of the inspection equipment and the data generated.
  • Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills and assists floor leader in providing advice and assistance to the other inspectors in the Branch.
  • Develop inspection procedures and plans to use by contractor personnel problems.
  • Act as the Command representative to the outside sources involved whether it is another government facility or a private contractor by providing special field advice and assistance visits.
  • Provide technical assistance to Vendor Control and Supply by field advice and meetings with vendors and other government facilities and to evaluate the capability of the vendor to produce the material in question.
  • Participate in the Pre‐Award Surveys and Post‐Award Surveys to evaluate the capability of the Command’s vendors and when called upon by the Fleet Analysis Center.
  • Perform spot‐checks of SIPs, QATIPs, and other inspections of materials for adequacy and thoroughness. Recommends changes where conditions warrant changes and researches and drafts Standard Inspection Procedures used in the receipt inspection of hardware.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Technical expertise in the field of manufactured parts that enables the incumbent to provide advisory services to coworkers, customers, and vendors. Extensive knowledge of the design and materials being used in manufacturing a wide variety of ordnance items to develop and evaluate inspection procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of Programming and the usage of computer controlled measuring equipment. Thorough knowledge of CMM including programming, operating, and interpreting data.
  • Working knowledge of qualifying vendors and Qualified Bidders List (QBL). Working knowledge of Aerospace parts.Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y 14.5) and the ability to apply it using up to date inspection techniques to perform inspections.
  • Working knowledge of various plating/protective finishing processes.
  • Understanding/knowledge of various heat treating and material hardening techniques and electro plating.
  • Broad knowledge of practices and procedures of other activities such as contracting, engineering, safety, and production to coordinate verification efforts.
  • Skill in applying a variety of methods and techniques for investigating, analyzing, and correcting quality problems.
  • Secret security clearance or Interim Secret required.

Ordnance Worker

Security Administrative Support

Scope:  Provide technical and administrative support for Security Management team.  Must be able to apply knowledge of a variety of security practices and procedures, to include; Industrial, Computer, Personnel, Information, and Physical security disciplines and problem solve in a very dynamic environment.  Must be highly capable of interfacing effectively with, and provide support to a diverse community including; organizational leadership, program managers, systems engineers, and other government, military, and contractor organizations.

Responsibilities: (Not all encompassing)

  • Assist the organization’s security manager by ensuring necessary daily tasks of proper document control/handling and transmission of classified material are uninterrupted.   Provide the critical conduit between external organizations and the security office by giving initial security assistance.  Research and apply a variety of security regulations/requirements to various situations and be able to propose solutions to the security manager related to security related problems as they arise.  Utilize Operations Security (OPSEC) principles during daily activities.  Provide professional and technical responses to assist a diverse user community, and react favorably to multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Retrieve, transmit, and distribute secure documents with reliability.  Prepare and package documents/items for facsimile, mailing, courier, and/or traveling to designated post offices.  This also includes retrieval of mail, incoming/outgoing facsimile, document accountability, reproduction of documents, and user distribution.  Utilize a variety of secure communication devices (Secure Telephonic Equipment (STE), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Video Teleconference (VTC)) to correspond with external and internal personnel.  Utilize Communications Security (COMSEC) enabled devices and conduct basic trouble-shooting techniques for equipment failures.
  • Responsible for development and staffing of a variety of correspondence materials, to include; formal and informal memorandums, visit requests, courier orders, reports, etc. utilizing various templates, lotus forms, and free form text formats.  Derivatively apply and ensure proper markings on classified documents are done in accordance with established classification guides.
  • Conduct primary visitor control and personnel security responsibility by utilizing the Joint Personnel Adjudication System to send/receive visit certifications and to retrieve clearance information. Inputs, uploads, and maintains personnel security data using unique data bases with 100% accuracy.  Determine initial access eligibility and make recommendations to higher level security specialists.  Track and staff incoming and outgoing personnel requests to ensure required suspense’s are met.
  • Maintain and utilize various office filing systems (electronic and paper) that include storage of both security-related and non-security related information. Uses unique shared file structures within computer networks to populate and track security compliance items. Conducts retrieval and destruction of material from security containers upon request.
  • Aid in maintaining and preparing organization for internal and external security inspections, to include Inspector General (IG), Self, Organizational, and Management Control requirements.  Understand requirements for, and maintain, SF 700s, 701s, and 702’s for all spaces and containers within the facility.  Be able to change security container/door combinations (X-09/CDX-09) with training, when required.
  • Assist the Information Technology specialist by issuing and controlling media, scanning media for viruses, copying data from disc to disc, moving and/or installing computer hardware, and maintaining functionality of conference room equipment.  Prepare and submit user agreement forms to establish individual accounts.  Coordinate shipment of computer equipment between network owner and distant receiving organization.  Utilize a variety of computer networks for correspondence purposes and able to conduct basic trouble-shooting techniques on information systems for equipment (printer, scanner, hard drive, monitor, universal power supply) failures.  Complete Information Awareness training within 30 days of assignment in order to utilize government information systems.
  • Assist in the preparation of meetings and conferences to include assistance with development of presentations, meeting materials, and facilities.  Be able to establish facility video and video tele-conferencing connectivity, as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring expendable office supplies are replenished utilizing appropriate procurement methods.  This includes stamps, mailing/packaging supplies, and general consumable items for the organization, when needed.
  • Assist logistics management with a variety of facility work requests, to include general building maintenance and transporting materials and hardware, when needed.
  • Ensure proper handling of personal identifiable information (PII).  Complete PII training within 30 days of assignment.
  • Responsible for answering telephones in the security office and taking phone messages for the security team members, when needed.
  • Conduct visitor control by responding to front door and use prescribed procedures for escorting visitors, as required.  This includes, but is not limited to, maintenance personnel, janitorial service personnel, contractors, military, and Government personnel.
  • Authorized late arrival or early departure from primary work location when facility is officially closed by direction of Director, Special Programs (Aviation) or Joint Base Langley-Eustis installation officials and is included in the contract price/rate.
  • Work hours outside of normal schedule which shall be authorized by Deputy Director, Systems Integration or designated employee (i.e. Security Manager, and approved by the Government Contracting Officer/Contracting Officers Representative) on an as-needed basis as specified in the contract.
  • Travel may be required (less than 10%) via military or commercial air, and/or rental vehicle.  Travel may also include hand carry of material to and from designated post offices.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work at a computer workstation for extended periods.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience working in an office environment utilizing basic Microsoft computer applications and familiarity with various internet protocols.
  • 1-2 years verifiable experience performing the security responsibilities in a secure/classified environment.
  • Possess good working knowledge and application of security requirements in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD) security manuals, to include the National Industrial Security Operating Manual (NISPOM), Director of Central Intelligence Directives (DCIDs) and/or DoD 5205.07 manuals.
  • Associates degree or higher and/or comparable work experience highly desirable.
  • Requires a TOP SECRET security clearance.
